Checkers brings you pet cover in partnership with one of SA’s most popular insurers: OUTsurance.

They offer three options when it comes to pet insurance, namely an accident plan which provides coverage for accidental injuries only, a comprehensive plan which provides coverage for accidental injuries, illness, and routine care and a core plan that covers accidents and unforeseen vet bills when your furry friend is admitted for an illness.  

Details about Checkers plans

The comprehensive plan offers an optional routine care benefit that covers expenses related to vaccinations, deworming, and sterilisation. The coverage does not stop there with dental procedures, prescription food, euthanasia, overseas travels, and accidental death also included.

Coverage amount and other details

The accidental coverage starts from R69 monthly and lets you enjoy an overall annual limit of R16 000 and a claim limit of R9 500. The core coverage starts from R169 for dogs and R145 for cats per month and gives you an overall annual limit of R44 000. With the core coverage, you have an R35 000 accident claim limit and an R31 000 illness claim limit.

The comprehensive coverage starts from R315 for dogs and R210 for cats per month and allows you an overall annual limit of R44 000. With this cover, you have an R35 000 accident claim limit and an R31 000 illness claim limit. The illness claim limit carries a 60-day waiting period. You also enjoy an annual vet visit limit of R4 400 carrying a 30-day waiting period.

Is pet insurance available for older pets?

The policy is available to pets of all ages, as long as they’re under the age of 8 years for the Comprehensive plan and under the age of 10 years for the Accident plan.

 It’s important to note that there’s a 12-month waiting period for hereditary, congenital, and pre-existing conditions. You can also tailor your cover so that you have a fixed excess amount starting from R550 for accident and illness claims.
