About OUTsurance

Outsurance was founded in 1998 by Willem Roos, Howard Aron, and Rene’ Otto.

At that time Outsurance was only offering household and car insurance to South Africans with the promise that as their customers you’ll always receive something in return. Outsurance is part of the Rand Merchant Investment Holding Group.

Insurance products for businesses of all sizes

2003 saw the launch of Business Outsurance, which was specifically designed to provide insurance products for businesses of all sizes.

In August 2008, Outsurance made an entrance into the life insurance market by providing car insurance clients with the option to buy credit life insurance on financed vehicles.

Advanced online quoting functionality

In 2008, Australia launched Youi, which is an Outsurance sister company with advanced technological quoting functionality offering home and car insurance to the Australian market. Two years later, Outsurance expanded into the life insurance market by providing death, critical illness, and disability cover.

More than R3 billion paid out in cash

Outsurance became the first insurance company to introduce Outbonus which is a cash bonus system in South Africa that rewards you if you remain claim free for three consecutive years. So far, Outsurance has paid out more than R3 billion in cash to many South Africans who’ve not claimed in 3 years.

Lower premium than you're currently paying elsewhere

Outsurance’s advanced underwriting system is based on a client's distinctive risk profile, which means as a low-risk client you don’t have to subsidise high-risk clients and Outsurance can offer you a lower premium than you’re currently paying elsewhere. Outsurance insurance products are affordable, simple, and come with no hidden clause.

Helping Hands Volunteer Programme was launched to help others in need

In 2003, the Helping Hands Volunteer Programme was launched to make it easy for every Outsurance employee to help others in need. Outsurance volunteers were involved in a variety of projects such as:

  • Centurion SPCA
