The different premium options and excess structures

Option A starts from R299 for dogs and R240 for cats. All claims have a 15% excess with a minimum of R500 per claim and additional MRI/CT-Scans have an excess of R1 000 per scan.

Claims that are not pre-authorised have an additional excess of 20% with a minimum of R500 per claim.

Option B starts from R330 for dogs and R260 for cats. The standard excess for all claims is 15% with a minimum of R250 per claim. Gastrointestinal-related conditions have a 15% excess with a minimum of R500 per claim, and claims that are not pre-authorised have an additional excess of 20% with a minimum of R500 per claim.

Option C starts from R275 for dogs and R215 for cats. It carries a flat excess of R1 000 per claim and any additional MRI/CT-Scan carries an excess of R1 000 per scan. Claims not pre-authorised have an additional excess of 20% with a minimum of R500 per claim.

The Paw Paw Accident 10 plan starts from R70 per month and has an annual limit of R10 000 per policy year. The age limit is 8 weeks and over, carries a standard excess of 15% with a minimum of R250 per claim, and there is no waiting period.

Coverage includes injuries and unforeseen incidents such as motor vehicle accidents, burns, falls, near drownings, actions of other animals, swallowing foreign objects, snake bites, allergic reactions, and poisoning. Covered injuries include fractured bones, ligament or tendon injuries, lacerations, wounds, and gastric torsion.

Exclusions include sickness, diseases not caused by accidental injury, late submissions of invoices, treatments outside of South Africa, treatments by unregistered veterinarians, allergic reactions to vaccines or medication, reusable surgical items, prostheses, implants, transplantation, and injuries caused by negligence.

The Paw Paw Accident 20 plan

The Paw Paw Accident 20 plan starts from R140 per month and has an annual limit of R20 000 per policy year. The age limit is 8 weeks and over, standard excess of 15% with a minimum of R250 per claim applies, and there is no waiting period.

Coverage and exclusions are the same as the Paw Paw Accident 10 plan, with a higher annual limit. Please note that any diagnosis related to an accidental injury must be made within 48 hours of the accident, and Paw Paw will report cases of abuse to the S.P.C.A.
