What is the chronic care programme?

What medication does Makoti cover?

Makoti has carefully selected top-of-the-range medicines to alienate and treat illnesses. You’re required to use it correctly and follow the right dose and instructions to maintain and recover your health.

It’s crucial that you take medicine in the prescribed measurement because if you don’t, this could lead to severe health consequences and sometimes even death.

A good number of these medicines are unbranded, yet quality proven. However, if you require something more expensive, then you’ll need to pay more to cover these costs. Medicines not covered by the scheme which are often mostly requested include laxatives, proton pump inhibitors and vitamins.

Who’s responsible for the administration of members?

Universal Healthcare is accountable for registering first time members and dependants. Makoti will apply for an underwriting as a regularity to all new members as prescribed by the Medical Scheme Act. As a principal member, you’re allowed these as your dependants

  • Partner or spouse
  • Your kids
  • Adopted kids
  • Your close family members
  • Family members that depend on you
  • At what age can your kids remain as dependants?

Your kids can stay on the scheme as dependants up until they reach 21 years or find employment.

After they’ve passed the age of 21 years, your kids can only stay on the scheme as adult dependants, meaning they’ll need to pay adult dependants rate up to the age of 25, provided they provide proof that they’re still pursuing their studies. Membership eligibility is not granted for grandkids.

What happens when you visit a health practitioner

When visiting a health practitioner, you should take your membership card and identity document with you, as it easily helps you to be recognised as a member of Makoti.

Also see to it that you carry with you any family planning and baby clinic documents, especially when seeing your health practitioner for the first time.

What you need to know about making appointments

There are some health practitioners and institutions that prefer if you can make an appointment if you’d like to see them. Doing this ensures

How many times are you required to change your option?

You’re only required to change your option once a year, and at the end of the year. You should ensure that the form that reflects the option changes is submitted to Makoti before their annual cut-off date, all this information is outlined on Makoti’s end of year documentation.

So, your changes should be sure to be done prior to the effective date of 1 January of the following year.

Your assigned general practitioner

As a Makoti member, you’ll be requested to choose a doctor that you’ll use as your regular doctor.

It’s imperative that you choose well as this will be the only doctor, you’ll be able to consult with, the only exception is when you encounter an emergency. The doctor you choose will be contracted with Enablemed to offer you services as provided by Makoti medical scheme.
