Adding a beneficiary
When you join Bloom, there are a few things you’ll need to add a beneficiary onto your plan.
These include the following:
- A copy of each dependant’s South African ID document/birth certificate
- If you’re adding a dependant between the ages of 18 to 26 you’ll need to provide them with tertiary education enrolment
- For a physically or mentally disabled beneficiary, you’ll need to provide an affidavit stating that the beneficiary is disabled
Who can be added on your medical plan?
With Bloom medical aid you’re allowed to add your spouse and up to six of your own children. The child dependants can be up to 26 years of age. Bloom has not made provision for adding your parents or siblings to your chosen medical plan.
What are the qualifying critea for Bloom medical aid?
To qualify for Bloom medical aid you need to be at least 18 years or older. The maximum income threshold is set at R30 000 but needs to be at least R8 000.
Waiting periods explained
Many medical aids have waiting periods on certain covers. This waiting period protects the insurer from individuals who take out medical aid, have large sums paid out onprocedures for pre-existing conditions and then cancel their cover. These waiting periods can range anywhere from three to 12 months.
