About Elixi

Elixi is located in the sunny town of Umhlanga Ridge, Durban, and is a subsidiary of Cubix Solutions, a multi-award-winning Authorised Financial Services Provider.

In 2017, after exhaustively researching and analysing the South African health sector, Talksure concluded that South Africans needed an alternative to the current medical aids on offer.

A growing need for private healthcare access

To meet this increasing demand for affordable access to primary health care among consumers, they created Elixi.

Elixi understands how unexpected medical challenges can negatively impact you and your family. They understand the anxiety and fear you feel at such times and how neither money worries nor being denied life-saving treatment are what you need.

They want to support you during such trying times with the comfort of knowing your medical bills are taken care of.

Access to private healthcare you can afford

That's why Elixi developed these affordable, specialised options because they care. You can rest assured that if the unforeseen happens, Elixi Medical Insurance will take care of you.

How they differ from medical aids

Medical insurances are not the same as medical aid. They're not regulated by the same bodies. Medical insurance is classed as insurance and will pay you out directly and it's up to you to pay your provider.

Elixi partners with Bryte, Guardrisk, Ambledown, and Unity Health to bring you the best plan for you and your family.

Elixi Services

You'll be able to go to a private hospital with the assurance that they'll cover your stay, so long as it's pre-authorised.

They offer 4 levels of medical insurance to suit your budget and your needs. All of the plans include:

  • Cover for unlimited GP visits: All plans give unlimited access to the Unity Health Network GPs-over 2700 doctors around the country. Minor procedures are included in your GP visit.
  • Consulting a nurse: You'll also get access to a network of nurse practitioners at any approved pharmacy clinic for minor ailments.
  • Acute medication: Acute medication will be prescribed or dispensed by a network GP for acute illnesses.
  • Blood tests/basic pathology: There's a basic list of blood tests if you have a referral from a network GP.
  • X-rays/basic radiology: They'll cover basic x-rays if you have a referral from a network doctor.

Wellness screenings for a healthy life

Elixi Medical Insurance offers the following wellness screenings.

  • Blood pressure
  • Glucose levels
  • BMI (Body Mass Index)
  • Waist circumference

All are available at an approved pharmacy near you:

  • PSA screening: PSA (Prostate-specific Antigen) is available every 2 years if you're over 50. It's available at Dis-Chem and Clicks Pharmacies.
  • Pap smears: A Pap smear can detect cervical cancer cells early and thus give you a better chance at a cure.
  • Vaccination Programme: Available at approved Clicks and Dis-Chem Pharmacies, for flu, hepatitis, tetanus, and pneumococcal
  • Intercare: This is unlimited online GP consultations via the Unity Health App.
  • Maternity: All plans offer limited gynaecologists and scans per family per year. You may go to any gynaecologist and may need to pay upfront but Elixi will reimburse you.
  • Chronic medications
