About Metropolitan

In December 2010, Metropolitan merged with Momentum to form Momentum Metropolitan Life Holdings Limited.

Beginning in Paarl, Western Cape in 1897, a collective known as African Homes Trust was formed to assist buyers to purchase homes of their own.

They may have grown and changed, even their name, but through it all they’ve remained true to their calling, helping South Africans achieve their dreams.

3rd biggest in the country

Even though they’re so big, they’ll always put you first, and you're guaranteed respectful treatment.

Metropolitan Holdings Limited is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, and in Namibia. They're fully licensed and together the company manages R480 billion in assets, so you know you have the security of working with a solid company.

Their social development drive

In the financial year 2020, the Metropolitan Foundation, an NPO, gave their social investment team a mandate to make a meaningful difference in the challenge of youth unemployment.

How Metropolitan makes a real difference

In spite of a global pandemic, they helped 750 16-20-year-olds find work, of whom 40% were women.

They've discovered their learners who've graduated from their ITC programmes have the highest job security. Therefore they’ll include more basic IT skills in their programme, and so enable students to learn quickly how to find work, or generate an income.

Giving back to society

In the same financial year, the group also invested R28 million in its programmes for financial literacy, youth employment, and staff volunteering.

And for 3 months their Group Chief Executive Officer gave one-third of his salary to the government's Solidarity Fund.

These are only some of the invaluable contributions Metropolitan is making to South Africa so we can all share in a better future.
